The novel One of Us is Lying was written by Karen M. McManus in 2017. McManus has a bachelor's degree in English and this novel is her debut piece. This book starts out in Bayview High where five kids are heading to detention. Bronwyn, she is the brains. She has always had good grades and is Yale bound. Addy, she is the beauty. She has been in a happy relationship for years. Nate, he is the criminal. He is on probation for dealing. Cooper, he is the athlete. He is an all star baseball player. Simon, he is the outcast. He created Bayview High’s very own gossip app.
As all five of the students enter the classroom, they are immediately quieted by their teacher. Three out of five of the students were in detention for having phones in their bag during school, the other two were in there all the time. After a mysterious car wreck in the school parking lot, one student within the classroom drops dead and it was not an accident.
This book is personally one of my favorites. I would give this book a rating of four and a half out of five. Mostly it is because it is the type that you could start and read in one sitting. All 358 pages making you want more. With each and every turn of events, it’ll have you wondering who did it and why. Reading about the investigation and little hints dropped by the author, you can almost figure it out.
